« No DUI Devices For Motorcycles

It was known by twenty-one year old Anthony Ramirez that a mistake has been made by him.

Last year, in October he got drunk and got behind the wheel.  He was arrested and as a part of his punishment, he’s required to get an Ignition Interlock Device installed on his vehicle. It is the requirement of that a driver had to blow into a tube to prove that they are not intoxicated. Without doing this, the vehicle will not start.

Though statewide interlocks are not installed by anyone on motorcycles, which is what Ramirez drives. It was said by him that they don’t make a device for a motorcycle, so he is supposed to do?

It is required by Florida statutes that the device to be installed on any motor vehicle, but the device is not being put on bikes by the two installers statewide due to the reason that the computer isn’t waterproof.

Without having the device installed, it is not possible for Ramirez to get his license re-instated, what it means is that since October, his father has had to drive his son to work and college every day.

So he ask that why not just get the Interlock installed on dad’s truck?

It was said by Ramirez’s father Tony that his son can put it on his vehicle but before he take his vehicle anywhere his son has to come in and blow in it or he has to bring his son with him to start it wherever the he stop.

Installation on motorcycles is allowed by some states while others like Massachusetts, straightly refuse the installation of device on bikes.

It was said by the Florida MADD Director Don Murray that they support the law and he know that receiving a DUI is a huge inconvenience but the good news is he’s alive and didn’t kill anybody.

It has been said by Ramirez that he’s stuck.

As part of his punishment, it is required that he  has to go to attend weekly AA meetings. And as he is not allowed to drive so it is quite difficult for him.

He accepts his mistake, but he also has said that he is trying to do right and the law isn’t letting him to do so.
