- Underage drinking has become more widespread due to the ending summer and the beginning of school. College, as well as high school students are returning to the party scene, which means that there will be a high increase in underage drinking.
It is common and normal for many people to be underage and drunk. Most of the students living in dorms, fraternity and sorority houses, in off-campus apartments, and even with their parents frequently get drunk and high.
But as you grow older, you recognize the fact that life is very precious and a very minor mistake can prove to be fatal. Thus it is better to realize your responsibilities at an early age.
This is what the California’s zero tolerance policy is being incorporated for. Under this policy, if you’re under 21, the police can arrest you for drunk driving if you are high, and it’s also possible for them to arrest you for driving with any measurable amount of alcohol in your body. This clearly means that if you want to engage in underage drinking, then don’t get behind the wheel. Parents should also show some responsible behavior and should pass on this information to their teenage children.
In case you are arrested for DUI and you are under 21, California’s zero tolerance policy imposes a minimum one-year driver’s license suspension, or a one-year delay in obtaining a license if you don’t have one yet. Also, depending upon the blood alcohol concentration (BAC), you could possibly face criminal charges and a jail sentence just like an adult.
