« Teenage Drunk Driving Statistics

The parents of all teenagers must be well aware about the facts of teenage drunk driving statistics not only to protect their teen but to protect all passengers or drivers on the road as well. Showing great excitement and extra enthusiasm after getting a driving license is a part of a teen’s natural behavior. The statistics of 2007 CDC reveal that about 50% teenagers drank alcohol in the past month which can increase the percentage of road accidents up to an alarming state.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about 12.5 million teenagers were given driving license in 2002. Though they make only 6.4% of total number of drivers being licensed; but even this small percentage is enough to increase the risk of daily road clashes or accidents.

1- According to 2004 CDC, about 4,767 teenager causalities occurred due to car clashes and almost 400 thousand teenagers get injuries in the same cases.

 

2- The CDC also reveals that the number of vehicle accidents is four times greater for teenager drivers as compared to older one.

 

3- Automobiles collisions also reported to cause 40% deaths for the persons aged from 15 to 20 years.

 

4- Teenagers were also held responsible for about 12% road accident deaths, according to the Insurance Institute for Health and Safety and the CDC as well.

 

5- According to another estimate by the National Highway Traffic Safety administration, 23% of teenage drivers in road accidents showed high blood alcohol level of 0.08.

 

6- Teenage drunk driving is not only alarming for people lives but also for national economy. According to a 2002 CDC report, the loss of about 40 billion dollars is estimated due to car accidents by teenagers.

 

Consuming alcohol and driving in the same state is absolutely illegal but nobody is paying heed to this reality. About three-fourths of students consumed alcohol before reaching graduation, according to SADD report. Now the question is how to deal with this growing menace?
