« Drive Safe during Holidays

Alarming news for those who will intake drugs or drinks before starting their journey on New Jersey’s roads can be caught by police for driving under the influence charges.

Police and other Law enforcement agencies of the state will make some complete patrolling and immediate sobriety checkpoints. This all will start from today till 3rd January 2010. This all will start as a part of campaign named as “Over the Limit, Under Arrest”. DWi Checks

This campaign is an effort to control the raise in drunk driving during holidays that is the busiest time of the year that is Christmas and New Year eve.

This special assignment is funded by the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety. This program for controlling drunk driving under the influence was started in 1999. This division grants $5,000 for this special assignment as a cover to extra work for field sobriety checkpoints and DWI patrols.

This amount will be granted to 110 agencies this year said by Pam Fischer, the Highway Traffic Safety Division’s director. State police also take part in this campaign.

At start one office will do extra patrolling to make it sure to keep everybody safe and for looking the possible drunk drivers. The regular patrol will do their duty as regular.

Millville police Sgt. Matt Rabbai said: “We’ll have aggressive patrols out on the street to supplement the shift that’s out there. We’re going to have more bodies out there doing DWI patrols.”

According to Millville police Sgt. Matt Rabbai that an aggressive patrolling will be done to support the extra shifts. He also added that the police department will also sent the information regarding DWI patrols and checkpoints.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s stats reported that in 2008, 11,733 people were died in accidents that were caused by drunken driving. 165 people died due to drunk driving only in New Jersey last year.

Fischer said that many people think that after some drinks they remain conscious enough to drive their vehicle. But a single drink can influence a lot and can put a driver’s judgment in wrong way and it may leads to some danger for himself or also for the other who are traveling on the roads.
