- Police told that a drunken driver exceeded 105 mph during a pursuit along a major Edmond thoroughfare.
Spokeswoman of Edmond Police Glynda Chu told that this incident is enough to prove that drinking and driving is never a good idea, because it includes the high rate of speed, which can cause death.
She said that it was fortunate that no one got injured.
Police said that last Thursday they responded to a call about a possible intoxicated driver at 15th Street and Broadway. Edmond Police Officer Jackie Collar told that a red ford pickup was swerving and had crossed the center line.
Police spotted that red ford pickup going through the Second Street-Broadway intersection. Police told that then it accelerated as it traveled westbound on Edmond Road and turned south on Fretz Avenue. There driver turned into a residential area and ran two stop signs in the neighborhood before returning north on Fretz and east on Second Street. The pickup was having speed over than 60 mps when it went back through the Second Street Broadway intersection, Police said.
Police told that they continued the pursuing the red pickup east along Second Street and both cars exceeded 105 mph, as they were passing and meeting cars.
This deadliest high-speed pursuit was ended when the pickup pulled off the side of the roan in the 15000 block of East Highway 66, near Choctaw Road. Ronald Louis Russell 39 years driver from Oklahoma City, then exited the pickup and laid down flat on his stomach with his hands behind his back
Police said that they had detected the signs that the driver was drinking. He was arrested on a Dui complaint and was taken to the city jail where he refused to take the state implied consent test. Latterly he was shifted to the county jail.
