« Vermont DUI Penalties
Law calls for suspected DUI drivers to go under breath, blood, or urine test for blood alcohol concentration are known as “implied consent laws”. Rebuttal carries penalties which include mandatory suspension of a driving license for up to a year.

Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC)
Any driver in Vermont with blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or above will be considered “per se intoxicated” under the law. According to this law only this evidence is enough for driver to be convicted for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
Zero Tolerance Blood Alcohol Concentration
Zero tolerance laws in all states mainly focus on drivers not of legal drinking age. Any driver under the age of 21 years in Vermont operating motor vehicle with 0.02 percent blood alcohol content or over will be subject to DUI penalties.
Enhanced Penalty Blood Alcohol Concentration
Some states are having severe punishments for those DUI convicted drivers who are having high blood alcohol concentration at time of arrest, which is usually .15 to .20 percent above the legal limit. Enhanced penalty laws are not applicable in Vermont.
Administrative License Suspension/Revocation Penalties
These are minimum compulsory penalties imposed on drivers that are having blood alcohol level above 0.08 percent in Vermont, or they are subject to implied consent laws if they refuse to submit to breath, blood, or urine test for blood alcohol level.
These penalties include suspension or revocation (temporarily or permanently) of driver’s license by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). For initial DUI offense in Vermont, the mandatory suspension is 90 days; for the second offense, one year; for third offense, three years.
Vehicle Confiscation
Vehicle confiscation penalty temporarily or permanently is a chance in some states usually for repeat offenders. While in Vermont this penalty is not valid one.
Ignition Interlock
Ignition interlock is a device which is attached with vehicle of DUI convicted person. It requires the driver to perform breath test before starting the vehicle. This penalty for DUI can be an option in some states; this is not a choice in Vermont.
Mandatory Alcohol Education and Assessment/Treatment
Alcohol education and prevention program, alcohol abuse treatment, and appraisal of a person for possible alcohol or drug dependence can be required for DUI offenders in Vermont. Such steps are usually taken instead of sever punishments like incarceration or paying fines.
