What is a Standard Alcohol Drink

People normally confuse the standard alcohol drink with other types of drugs. They don’t know about the actual concentration of alcohol that makes a drink, standard.

What is a Standard Drink?

The beer, drink wine, white or red wine, whiskey and distilled spirits have the same content of alcohol and so as their drinking affects. They all are same to a breathalyzer. Anyhow, a standard drink is:

  • 12-ounce bottle or
  • 5-ounce glass of wine
  • 1 and 1/2 ounce of 80 proof distilled spirits

  • Your limit must be known by you. Experience with some responsible person in order to know that. That can be your spouse or a good friend. Most people feel that they can easily consume one drink per hour without having any ill effects. Drink wheel is also very informative so also experiment with that.
  • High protein food such as meat, cheese, fish etc. help in slow absorption of alcohol in your body. So while drinking, take the food especially that is rich in protein content. It is also useful regarding health and nutrition.
  • To having the actual flavors and aroma of the drink, always take it by sipping. Never gulp.
  • Avoid from being a part of drinking games like chugging etc. They can be dangerous for your health as a lot of health issues are accompanied by them.

  • Drink when you actually feel to. Ask for a non-alcohol beverage if somebody forces you for a drink. If it doesn’t work, just leave your drink somewhere. Or hide it under some table etc.
  • A non-alcoholic drink between the alcoholic ones helps in keeping BAC down. So while you are consuming alcohol, try to have something which is non-alcoholic.

It has accurately been told by the medical and health professionals that the beer, wine either red or white, distilled spirits etc. have the equal content of alcohol in them.

  • While drinking, don’t just sit around. Move and keep yourself active. Because by staying active you comparatively drink less. You will be then more aware of the alcoholic effects then. In the either case you will drink more and will become quite sluggish.
  • Alcohol content is not detectable in unfamiliar drinks like zombies, fruits drinks etc. So refrain from consuming them. They can have certain unexpected ill effects.
  • Consult the physician or pharmaceutics about the precautions and prohibitions that you need to follow in connection with pharmaceuticals.

If you feel like drinking, go for a standard drink. Unknown and anonymous drinks don’t have the known concentration of alcohol and thus they can be harmful in certain ways. Moreover, you don’t have any idea about the ill effects it is going to have. So it is better always chose a drink in which alcohol content is known and detectable. Drink only registered alcohols to protect yourself from any poisonous effects and most important, don’t forget your limitations while you drink.
