Driver Charged With DUI In Fatal Wrong-Way Crash

According to the Massachusetts State Police, a man will face vehicular homicide and drunken driving charges after he allegedly slammed his jeep into a sports car, killing one person, while he was driving in the wrong direction on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The driver, Philip Daniels, 33, of Boston, has been accused of driving his 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound in the eastbound side of the turnpike, colliding head-on into a 1978 MG coupe. The vehicles crashed at about 1:49 a.m near Massachusetts Ave., before the Prudential Tunnel.

Although Daniels was not injured in the crash, but an adult male passenger in the MG was killed and the male driver was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital having some serious injuries.

The Police arrested Daniels at the scene, charging him with motor vehicle homicide while driving under the influence of alcohol, operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and wrong way operation of a motor vehicle.

This week, a 20-year-old Winnetka woman was charged with DUI. Earlier this month, she had lost control of her car, crashing into the living room of a sleeping Wilmette family.

The woman named Colleen D. Brennan, resident of the 600 block of Sheridan Road, was charged when she had a blood-alcohol content of .29, which is greater than three times the legal limit to drive of .08.

According to the Police, Brennan was alone in a Saab at 5 a.m. on Dec. 5, when she crashed into a fire hydrant and a parked car before crossing four lawns in the 1100 block of Ridge Road in Wilmette. After that, she drove right through the bushes, before going airborne and hitting the home.

After the crash, the homeowners woke up, who were upstairs. They found the Christmas decorations and curtains, dragged into their living room through a bay window with broken glass sprayed all over the floor.

According to the homeowner, JoAnne Rankin, Brennan had been thrown from the car and was lying on her back, yelling that she could not see.

Due to the crash, the Rankins lost power supply to their house for days as the Saab had hit their electrical panel and gas meter.

A woman in Ohio just received her 7th DUI, as she rammed her truck into the back of a stopped car, and injured three victims. Fortunately, the injuries of the three people in the car were not life threatening, but much worse could have happened.

The worst part is that she still has her license and thus the possibility of more accidents is still there. It’s a mockery of justice when someone so irresponsible is able to keep driving and putting people at risk. This accident signifies the fact that this woman should not be given the right to have a license.

The woman, Stephanie Foy, has already had six convictions on her record, before she was charged with the seventh one. A press release by Newsnet5 stated that Foy has been fined, placed behind bars, and even had her license suspended in the past due to infractions.

But none of that seems to have been enough a punishment for her, as she was driving drunk once again on Friday. If her license had been cancelled before, she wouldn’t have been able to injure three innocent people that were waiting at a stop sign.

The injured three included a six-year-old boy, who hit his head in the car, the driver of the car, who received a concussion along with neck and back injuries, and a third passenger, who’s status had not been released at the time of the accident.
The police reported that Foy stumbled out of her truck after hitting the car. She smelled of alcohol, and then refused a breath test when she was asked to do so by the police.

Although it hasn’t been proved by the courts that she was drunk when driving, but it seems that she will be charged with another DUI. Maybe this time the courts will actually take this seriously, and restrict her use of license. After all, why should others suffer due to a habitual drunk who has been set free on the roads?
